- What were Music halls like during WWI?
I am currently writing an essay for my masters of the role of music halls during World War One.I wonder if you had any useful information on what role the music hall played during the conflict please?I am focusing in how music halls reflected british culture from the period.
So far I have found out that the music hall changed from recruitment based performances such as Vesta Tilley, towards more moral boosting and perhaps slightly negative in the portrayal of war.
Also I would be grateful to know how the audiences literally changed throughout the conflict. For example where they more male or female based, and how ,if it did,did this change throughout the war?
Any knowledge on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
